Information about 40th Annual OSA Convention 

What is OSA convention?

It is the annual convention of the Orissa Society of the Americas. Orissa is a coastal state in eastern India. OSA is an umbrella organisation of Oriyas living in North America. This convention takes place during the July 4th weekend every year. It serves to bring together people with roots in Orissa to share the pride in Oriya culture and heritage and pass it on to the next generation.


Who organizes this convention?

The main responsibility of hosting the convention rests with the local chapter. This year, it is being hosted by the New York/New Jersey Chapter (OSANYNJ). The venue has been selected in the city of Trenton, the Capital City of New Jersey. It is closer to Philadelphia and Newark Airport.

When is the convention?


This year, the convention has been planned during July 2nd- 5th, 2009. 
When will the opening and closing ceremonies be conducted?
The exact times for both, when determined, will be published in the Event Calendar page.

When do I need to arrive and when can I leave?

Although the convention will formally begin with the inaugural ceremony on the morning of Friday, July 3rd, 2009, many are expected to arrive the evening before (Thursday, July 2nd) to socialize and participate in the Wednesday night Mehefil. The closing ceremony, the final banquet, and the Mehefil on Saturday night is not to be missed. Therefore, in order to maximize your participation and enjoyment, you should plan on arriving on Thursday (July 2nd) and departing on Sunday (July 5th).


Who is the convention for and who can attend this convention?

The convention is for anybody who has interest in Orissa, its people and in Oriya culture. Non-members may be charged little extra to reflect the annual Membership charges.

Is there a Convention Theme this year?

Yes, this year's theme is "40 Spectacular Years  – Saata Dariaa Paari Re"  (40 Spectacular Years – Across many oceans)


What are the advantages of attending OSA Convention?

Where will the next annual OSA convention be?
